The Filthy Habbits – Backs to the wall (Single)
Oozing with rough voiced vocals and upbeat electronic riffs The Filthy Habbits definitely know how to make their mark. For a first single ‘Backs to the wall’ has everything big bands like Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chilli Peppers are achieving, unless you knew it you’d be unlikely to notice these rockers were new to the scene. With its stand out riffs and own personality this track has the potential to make this band. Once in a while a track comes along with a new act that just blows you away… that at the moment, is this.

In Tyler We Trust- Watch Me Fall (Single)
In a time and age when our music scene is filled with boy bands with members barely out of school and too many jingly guitar riffs In Tyler We Trust are a breath of fresh air. Branding themselves as modern British rock this band from Tunbridge Wells show what it really is to be rock 'n' roll.
'Watch me fall' is fast paced, addictive and ballzy all the ingredients that proper rock music requires. Having only formed since spring 2011 In Tyler We Trust are already going places with local festival slots, 2012 is predicted to be much of the same with the band getting ready to embark on their first UK headline tour.

Don't Touch The Walls - Don't Touch The Walls (EP)
There's something quite special about this EP - maybe it's to do with having a female vocalist who doesn't become ever more annoying after more than one song. Opening track 'You and I' despite its subtle introduction launches into a fiesty song full of angst and meaning mixed with it's folk like vibe. 'Witches' is also another portrayal that Don't Touch The Walls have hit the nail with this EP - the tracks deep vocals blend perfectly with the overall haunting aspect.
The past few years have seen the Folk genre rinsed dry, however this EP shows that with some experimentation there's hope for every genre.

The Sharp Darts - Butterfly Stitches (Sample track from upcoming Acoustic EP)
For a band that haven't been together for very long this Birmingham based band has come far already with involvement in 2011's International Surface festival and the release of their first double A side single - 'Kids are leaving town/Down in flames'.
'Butterfly Stitches' is a new track that will be appearing on an acoustic EP that the boys plan to release in the next few months. As acoustic tracks go it's something special. The simple guitar melodies offer the perfect match with the smooth vocals, while the more upbeat rough sounding approach the vocals take on later in 'Butterfly Stitches' show the depth of the song as more than just another acoustic soppy love ballad.
If the rest of the material on this upcoming EP match the standard of this track then The Sharp Darts are onto a winner.

California Gypsies - Common People (Single)
It's been a bit of an odd year for this group of musicians, they started 2011 under the name of Andy Kyte, name of their lead singer and along the way transformed into the newly named California Gypsies. 2011 has seen them announce that the new year will bring with it a new California Gypsies EP and hopefully more live dates.
If this track 'Common People' is anything to go by then expectations for this new EP should be high, filled with a rough rock 'n' roll edge, California Gypsies put what's been missing in recent years back into music - individualism, energy and charm.

Honeykill - Animal Instincts (Single)
So far 'Animal Instincts' may only be recorded as a rough demo but it definitely doesn't lack potential. If there's one thing the current UK music scene lacks it's that rock 'n' roll edge with balls - and Honeykill deliver that with an ease.
The only question that could be debated is whether this track will retain it's charming roughness once it's recorded properly, or if it should stay as one of those rare gems of a rough demo.
A band like Honeykill have been needed for far too long, it's about time music was ruffled up a bit.

Morning Parade - Us and Ourselves (Single)
Having already supported The Kooks on their UK tour the time seems to have arrived for Morning Parade. 'Us and Ourselves' can only be described as beautiful, everything about the song sits perfectly together making it one of the more memorable tracks from 2011.
With lyrics that can be identified by anyone Morning Parade display guitar bands do not need jingly guitar riffs and annoying poppy lyrics in order to be decent.
With their debut album about to be released here is a band to watch out for - they are sure to be heading places and fast!

Rosie Bans - Pictures (Single)
With the likes of Adele storming the music scene this year, 2011 has shown that now is the time for strong voiced female singer/songwriters. Rosie Bans is no different with her latest single ‘Pictures’ the self-titled track from her new EP. Her voice has a soulful element with a contemporary musical style making her fresh and enjoyable to listen to. ‘Pictures’ is about ridding yourself of someone and moving on with your life - a theme we’ve all heard in music countless times, but with Bans her unique approach somehow makes it seem fresh and somewhat feministic.

The Rimes - Yeah Yeah Yeah (Single)
At the moment this track seems to be doing the rounds on the net. That could well be because Wolverhampton's The Rimes have just been voted as the 25 hour convenience stores (Gary Powell from The Libertines record label) band of the week. ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ is energetic and vibrant in every way. The chaotic chorus gives this track a rock ‘n’ roll edge but the difference is these boys put a unique slant on their Indie sound. They may list The Artic Monkeys as an influence but they definitely don’t sound like them – they aren’t annoying, cocky and play overused jingly guitar riffs.

The Idle Flames - The Days Of Heartbreak (Single)
The Idle Flames should in retrospect be nothing special, just another acoustic guitar band - and haven’t we all seen enough of those in recent times. However occasionally with acoustic performers you will come across an act that has real talent, an act that need nothing more than powerful vocals and guitar playing. The Idle Flames hit that nail right on the head - they have something so simple but yet so beautiful. You probably couldn't be blamed for making the presumption that with a name like ‘The Days of Heartbreak’ this is another dull, lifeless, bitter love song. Surprisingly it isn't, it’s just upbeat enough to actually make it quite cheery despite its somewhat less happy content. With the current argument that guitar music has no place anymore - if more guitar bands sounded like The Idle Flames there wouldn't even be room for that debate.

The Duelling Winos - Here's To The Days (Single)
Hailing from Glasgow these Scottish rockers have something rare – Natural talent. ‘Here’s to the days’ is the follow up from their last critically acclaimed single ‘Someday’ and provides beautiful guitar playing matched perfectly with sentimental lyrics. Not sentimental enough however to become soppy, the vocals have enough edge to make it have meaning and give it that slight rock n roll edge. The Duelling winos have a unique name and sound – overall they have the complete musical package, they’re an act Glasgow should be proud of!

Captain Horizon - El Nibre (EP)
Captain Horizon emerged into the music scene back in the summer of 2008 and with their constant touring they have now become regulars to the Midlands unsigned music scene. Last month saw them release their new EP ‘El Nibre’ and right from the word go Captain Horizon present themselves as rockers with mass ability. First track ‘Turn Away’ with its slight Alternative sounding edge is matched perfectly with its hearty rock n roll vocals. Captain Horizon then go one step further to prove they are 100% rock with self-titled track ‘El Nibre’ – a mass of rock ‘n’ roll frenzy that could easily fill any arena with energy. Despite only being four tracks long this latest EP could only be described as perfection; long enough to tell people what they’re about but short enough to leave listeners wanting more. This is one exciting band to watch out for in the coming months…

Ravens Beats Crow - Cruise Hip (Single)
Raven Beats Crow have decided to release this new teaser track in anticipation for the fast approaching release of their as of yet still untitled new EP. ‘Cruise Hip’ was written and recorded in just two nights in the bands own London based recording studio. The track presents its listener to the thoughts of a man who has been stuck singing on cruise ships for so long he isn’t sure he can really tell what’s reality and what isn’t. It may sound an odd choice of storytelling for a song but it works. That could be mainly down to the huge amounts of distorted synths that give ‘Cruise Hip’ an unsteady and washed out feeling - putting its listener in an uneasy trance. For everything this track hopes to set out and achieve it does it.

Georgia Thompson - Headaches and Takeaway (EP)
‘Headaches and Takeaway’ is the latest EP from solo artist Georgia Thompson with a mixture of her favourite covers. Starting with her cover of Katie Melua’s most famous track ‘Closest Thing To Crazy’ Thompsons own sound and input comes through crystal clear. Unlike most unsigned solo artists she has the confidence to let her voice do most of the work while letting her subtle guitar playing blend softly into the background. ‘Walk With Me’ also works brilliantly well, you can’t help but feel Thompson relates to the song entirely and feels every word she sings. It’s rare to come across a solo artist who doesn’t mirror another musician in some way but when you listen to Georgia Thompson you can’t help but just think of her as herself – unique and something special.
